Zebra Slot Canyon. Location: 16-miles East of Escalante. Length: 5-miles roundtrip. Difficulty: Moderate. This is a beautiful hike that has an amazing slot canyon at the end of the trail. The hike to the slot canyon has beautiful landscape views of Utah. Zebra Slot canyon was our first, and thus probably the most memorable slot canyon hike. Located in the vast and beautiful Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, just a few short miles outside of the town of Escalante, the slot canyon is both accessible and relatively easy to enjoy. To reach Tunnel Slot, go down Harris Wash a little less than a mile (20-30 minutes) from Zebra to the first side canyon coming in on the left. Go up this side canyon about 10 minutes to reach the Tunnel. It can be dry, or a deep pool. Return up Harris Wash to Halfway Hollow and follow the trail back to the trailhead. Yikes, we found the parking just after the cattle entrance and crossed the Hole in the Rock road to hike to the Zebra slot canyon. Lots of gnats and mosquitos!!!! Overview: Zebra and Tunnel Slot Canyons are simply beautiful canyons. Very dry and hot, it’s best to avoid the hottest part of summer when attempting these canyons (which is what I did in mid July- I just couldn’t hold enough water, or drench my bandanna enough). The Canyons are extremely short for the long walk, but worth every moment.

Dec 08, 2020 · A long hike through the hot desert but a beautiful slot canyon making the hike well worth it. The challenge of getting to the end of the slot and seeing the zebra strips was fantastic! It was only a short 300 feet to the end of the slot but the end is very colorful and a stunning sight to see.
